Alan, age 48, joined International Paper in 2011 and has legal responsibility for IP’s executive compensation, including leading IP’s Proxy Task Force and supporting IP’s Global Compensation and Benefits department and the Management Development and Compensation Committee of its Board of Directors. He also has legal responsibility for IP’s public disclosures and securities law compliance, including all SEC filings, and IP’s corporate governance and the corporate secretarial function, including advising the full Board and its other committees on a variety of issues.
Alan came to IP from FedEx Corporation, where he held several positions over a 10-year span in FedEx’s Securities & Corporate Law department. Before joining FedEx, he practiced law at King & Spalding in Atlanta and completed a judicial clerkship on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Vanderbilt University, and received his law degree from Vanderbilt as well. He is a Memphis native and has three children (ages 12, 16, and 19). In addition to spending time with his family, he enjoys bicycling and running marathons.
